The Vertere
Inventory Manager uses barcoding to identify inventory items, the
groups or individuals who use or own the items, and the locations
where inventory is used or stored. Although barcoding of equipment
or supply items and locations is central to automated inventory,
the new Vertere system does not require barcode use; the user can
choose to omit item-specific tagging.
But for on-going
inventory management, barcoding eliminates the repeated cycle of
count, write, tally, reconcile, and report. In each inventory task,
the barcode functions like a license plate identifying a unique
location or item. The barcode does not need to contain any intelligent
data (such as item description or location) BUT in the Vertere Inventory
Manager the barcode can be formatted to the demands of your environment.
The Vertere
Inventory Manager users can choose from many tools to speed data
collection and increase data accuracy and usability. In every case,
software for the peripheral device (as well as the Vertere Inventory
Manager software itself) has been written and tested to exacting
IEEE standards.
- Portable
laser scanners for remote data collection, and batch, wireless,
or RF transmission to the Inventory Manager where data are filtered,
exceptions to site requirements or data integrity guidelines are
identified for correction, and changes to records are documented
in the system 's transaction and audit files.
- Barcode readers
for use at the PC where scanning speeds data entry and improves
accuracy.
- Personal
Data Assistants (PDA's) for capturing photos, reading barcodes,
and updating information through serial transmission to the Inventory
Manager .
- Barcode printers
for customized, on-demand labels. The Inventory Manager includes
a simple barcode label design for printing the barcode in code
39 format with the human readable number. With the addition of
third party software, each site can design one or more labels
to include data from any field.
- Balances
for recording tare weight values. Standard laboratory balances
with automatic output can be connected to the program to export
gross weight values.
